How Grantsville uses AI

Published October 21, 2026

More grant applications are written with AI help every year, and funders are right to ask how. This is where Grantsville stands. When our practice changes, we will update this page and its date.

Drafts start from your own documents

Grantsville drafts from your organization's own documents, starting with your public Form 990, not from a blank prompt. Facts in a draft link to the document they came from, and Grantsville flags claims it cannot trace to a source.

When a draft states a number or claim you should check, Grantsville points it out before you submit.

A person approves before anything is submitted

You review and approve every section. Grantsville does not send anything to a funder: you submit the application yourself, when you decide it is ready.

AI quality checks support your review. Some of these checks must pass before Grantsville prepares your application package, but you decide whether and when to submit.

We don't hide AI involvement

Every application package Grantsville prepares includes an AI-disclosure statement that says how AI was used and what people did. We don't offer tools that disguise AI writing or remove signs that AI was involved.

Funders' rules on AI differ, from welcoming it to banning it. Check each funder's current instructions before you apply.

A sentence you can use

If a funder asks how you used AI, you can adapt this sentence. It agrees with the AI-disclosure statement in your Grantsville package.

We prepared this application with Grantsville, an AI writing tool, which helped organize and refine the text from our organization's own documents; our staff provided the program and organizational information and reviewed and approved all content before submission.

What we do about the flood of AI applications

Funders we have spoken with describe more applications since AI writing tools spread, and many that don't fit: organizations reshaping themselves to match a grant, or describing work they have never done. Grantsville is built to help you apply where you fit, honestly, not to apply everywhere.

  • Before you write, Grantsville checks how the funder takes applications, quoting the funder's own guidelines, and flags barriers such as invitation-only programs or fiscal-sponsor rules. When the guidelines say not to proceed, it recommends skipping that funder.
  • Drafts describe the work in your documents. Grantsville is not built to invent programs or results you don't have, and it points out the claims to check.

Grantsville doesn't yet judge whether your programs match a funder's priorities. That decision is yours, and it is the one funders care about most.
